Today (May 14, 2017) is Mothers Day in many nations of the world. But on the biblical calendar it is the seventeenth day of the second month, the day the Flood of Noah began.
“In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.” (Genesis 7:11)
It was on this day around 4350 years ago that Noah and his family entered the Ark and the rain began to fall. The day of judgment had come. Mankind had chosen to go their own way. They had rejected their creator and corrupted themselves beyond repair.
“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.” (Genesis 6:5,6)
The corruption of mankind had even affected their DNA. The bible teaches that the sons of God (בְּנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים ) had taken human wives. The resulting offspring were extraordinary.
“There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.” (Genesis 6:4)
Although a doctrine rejected today by many, the book of Jude explicitly teaches that the “sons of God” in Genesis chapter six are fallen angels.
“And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.” (Jude 6,7)
Jude infers that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah parallels the sin of “the angels which kept not their first estate”, which was the sin of “fornication, and going after strange flesh”. It is said that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was “even as” and “in like manner” as the sin of the fallen angels.
The Jewish historian Josephus recounts the Angelic view, which was held by the Jews of the first century, when he writes,
“NOW this posterity of Seth continued to esteem God as the Lord of the universe, and to have an entire regard to virtue, for seven generations; but in process of time they were perverted, and forsook the practices of their forefathers; and did neither pay those honors to God which were appointed them, nor had they any concern to do justice towards men. But for what degree of zeal they had formerly shown for virtue, they now showed by their actions a double degree of wickedness, whereby they made God to be their enemy. For many angels of God accompanied with women, and begat sons that proved unjust, and despisers of all that was good, on account of the confidence they had in their own strength; for the tradition is, that these men did what resembled the acts of those whom the Grecians call giants.” (Josephus Antiquities 1.3.1)
God’s righteous character could not allow mankind to continue in such depravity. For God to remain just, his judgment must fall. God said,
“I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.” (Genesis 6:7)
But all was not lost, the bible says that, “Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” (Genesis 6:8) God had preserved in Noah and his family, a small remnant untouched by the rebellion. Genesis 6:9 states that Noah was “perfect” (תָּמִים) meaning without flaw. This clearly refers to Noah’s character as being without flaw, but could also mean that Noah’s DNA had not been touched by the angel-human hybridization. Noah and his family were perfect specimens with which God would begin the human project anew. Everyone living today is a descendant of Noah.
The scientific establishment rejects a worldwide flood as taught in the bible. They do this on philosophical and not evidential grounds. According to evolutionist, for their theory of evolution to work, they need billions of years for life to evolve. No one has ever seen life coming from non-life or a creature evolve from one species into another, yet they believe it. Evolution is their religion, their attempt to explain the creation without a Creator. To such people the idea of God is repulsive. They will have no Deity telling them what they should and should not do. They want the option to lie, cheat, steal, kill, and be sexually immoral with no one calling them into account. Basically, they want to be gods themselves as the serpent in the garden of Eden promised Adam and Eve.
“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:5)
The evidence for a worldwide flood is overwhelming, the entire surface of the earth bears the scars of such a flood. Each time you see the multi layered geological column filled with billions of fossils, you are seeing the destruction of the old world wrought by the great flood. The geological column was laid down in months, not millions of years. The various minerals churned up by the flood waters gradually settled out into the strata of the geological column. Innumerable plants and animals were trapped in these sedimentary layers, forming the fossils we see today. Polystrate fossils such as petrified tree trunks which extend through many geologic layers prove that the layers of the geological column were laid down at the same time. Not gradually over millions of years.
The Great Flood of Noah is a type or picture of the coming destruction of this present evil world. The judgment in Noah’s day was by water, the coming judgment will be by fire.
“For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” (2 Peter 3:5-7)
The apostle Peter instructs us about the manner of people we should be in light of the coming destruction by fire.
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” (2 Peter 3:10-13)
Jesus said that his second coming would be as the days of Noah.
“But as the days of Noe (Noah) were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.” (Matthew 24:37-41)
The second coming of Jesus is very near. As I have said before, I believe that we have entered Daniel’s 70th week. Men's hearts will be failing them for fear, and for looking at those things which are coming on the earth. (Luke 21:26)
If you haven’t given your life to Jesus, it’s time to do so.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9,10)
“Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
